Soul Fiber Club
Meets monthly on the 1st Sunday of each month
Location: Bushy Hill Nature Center Classroom
Inspired by the recent crafting movement to help make blankets, pouches, wraps, etc for the animals rescued during the wildfires in Australia, the Soul Fiber Club is open to all crafters, or crafters-to-be, with a focus on those who sew, knit, or crochet and who want to make items for those in need. Some months there will be a local organization that we will highlight items they need (ex: local bat rescue or an opossum rescue, or perhaps we feature hospitals in need of hats and blankets).
Folks who already have organizations that they support regularly with items they’ve made are welcome to join us and share the organization close to their heart. Our hope is to offer a place where experienced and new crafters can come together to meet, socialize, and perhaps teach each other new (or some old) crafting skills while also doing good for the larger community.
This is set up in an open house-style format and very informal. Participants are welcome to come and go as their schedules allow. Tables will be available for sewing machines to be set up and we have some yarn that has been donated for this cause. We set the time to coincide with our Reptiles with Ron and Zane class for participants with children to have an opportunity to let their children learn about the reptiles while having some time to create without distraction. Don’t worry! The reptiles are in the same building but the class takes place in a different room!
Participants are responsible for sending their items to the rescue/organization that they have selected. Bushy Hill will deliver items to the local organizations we highlight for the month. *Please note that you should check with a rescue organization before creating an item to donate to them to make sure they are in need and to get specific patterns that they are looking for.
*Please join our Facebook Group: Soul Fiber Club linked from the Bushy Hill Nature Center Facebook Page. Most announcements regarding this club will be done in the Facebook group.
